(Wakefield, MA) – Several local nonprofit organizations that received a financial award from The Savings Bank Charitable Foundation. The foundation, established in 1997 through an initial endowment of $550,000 from The Savings Bank, presented a total of $74,000 to 24 nonprofit organizations during the 29th distribution of funds. Over the past 29 years, the Foundation has made donations in excess of 1,091,847 to organizations in local communities.
Awards were granted based on a number of factors, including intended use of the funds by the organization and the organization’s status as a publicly supported charity. Organizations that received an award were located in the areas served by The Savings Bank, with a focus on those organizations serving the residents of Wakefield, Lynnfield, Andover, North Reading, and Methuen. Grantees were nonprofit organizations serving individuals in the areas of homelessness, family services, poverty, and elder services.
